Why Utility Rentals?
Three things that set us apart from every other leasing company in the UK education market.
Self-Financed
No banks, no brokers, our money. We fund every lease directly from our own balance sheet, meaning faster decisions, no credit committees, and no middlemen taking a cut. When we say yes, we mean it.
We're also the Supplier
Equipment and finance in one relationship. We specify, procure, and finance the equipment — meaning one contract, one point of contact, and complete accountability throughout the lease term. No finger-pointing.
DfE Compliant Since Day One
We were operating and structuring compliant leases before the DfE guidance was even written. Every lease we structure adheres to DfE rules for maintained schools and ESFA guidance for academies and MATs. Compliance isn't an afterthought — it's our foundation.
Equipment We Lease
From interactive classroom technology to vocational equipment and temporary buildings — we lease it all on DfE-compliant terms.
Who We Work With
We work exclusively with UK education institutions — from small nurseries to large multi-academy trusts. If you're in education, we're built for you.
Whether you're a maintained school bound by DfE guidance, an academy trust following ESFA rules, or an independent institution with your own procurement policies — we understand the regulatory landscape and can structure a lease that fits your exact requirements. We've helped thousands of institutions across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland access the equipment they need without unnecessary capital expenditure.
Compliance is at the heart of everything we do
UK schools and academies operate under strict financial regulations when it comes to leasing. The Department for Education sets out specific guidance on operating leases vs finance leases for maintained schools. The Education and Skills Funding Agency (ESFA) issues its own guidance for academy trusts.
We structure every lease as an operating lease where appropriate — meaning the asset doesn't appear on your balance sheet and you remain within DfE spending rules. We are also fully aware of IFRS16 implications and can advise on the accounting treatment for your specific institution type.
We were structuring compliant leases before most of today's guidance existed. Compliance isn't something we retrofitted — it has been integral to our business since 1985.
