Add a spooky slant to your Halloween classroom decorations!

It’s nearing the end of October, that only means one thing – it’s time to start creating your Halloween classroom decorations!

For younger kids don’t go too scary; as they get older you can start ramping up the fear factor.

Here are some of our favourite Halloween classrooms and activities, hopefully they’ll prove a good source of inspiration!

3 Halloween classroom decorations that will make students scream!

We mean scream in delight … obviously! Here are three great ideas for Halloween classroom decorations:

1. Hanging decorations

Suspend spiders, moons, ghosts and other scary symbols from your classroom ceiling.

Simply cut them out, attach a piece of string and stick them to the ceiling using sticky tape or pins.

If you want to be really creepy, create scary critters using a 3D printer, hang them around the classroom, or even scatter them across the floor!

2. Spooky lighting

Use an electric tea light and craft spooky shapes around it.

Pumpkins are one of our favourite Halloween classroom decorations. Simply use strips of orange paper, glue them at the top and the bottom to create a sphere and add a green leaf on top!

3. Witches potion

This is great for the young ones, but older kids will love it too.

Fill a tub with water crystals, add some ghoulish items (bats, spiders, dismembered fingers, you know the score), then drop in some prizes. Your students will have to plunge in to retrieve them!

You could even make this part of an educational game – write a question on the board, and add envelopes containing answers to the bottom of the tub. The student who finds and identifies the correct answer first wins a prize!

Spook-ify your lessons too!

It’s not just your classroom that can get the Halloween treatment, the entire curriculum can too!

Just for one day, focus your lesson plans on the ghostly, magical and downright scary! Here are a few ideas:

Maths and Food Tech: Cook a delicious pumpkin soup

The maths bods can work out the necessary ingredients and the food tech students can carve out the pumpkin to make a yummy soup!

Art and textiles: Create terrifying costumes and decorations

Get students involved in creating your Halloween classroom decorations and costumes. Witches hats, black cats and cauldrons are fun to make, and really get their imaginations going!

History: Look back in your crystal ball

Teach your students about the origins of Halloween. Include famous incidents like the Salem witch trials, and the origins of fun traditions, such as apple-bobbing.

Film, media, or just for fun!

Depending on the age of your students, you could show a scary film to see how they react. You’ll need parental permission of course, but here are some great ones you can try:
