Government advice
If you would like to give your school a thorough clean ahead of students returning, here is some guidance to follow from Gov.uk:
- You should always wear disposable or washing-up gloves and aprons for cleaning
- You should also use disposable cloths for all cleaning
- The first step is to ensure you thoroughly clean hard surfaces with warm soapy water. After this, should you disinfect these surfaces with regular cleaning products
- It is important that you pay particular attention to areas and surfaces that are frequently touched by staff and pupils. These include bathrooms, grab-rails in corridors and stairwells, and door handles
- After cleaning, you should ensure that protective equipment and disposable cloths are double-bagged and stored securely for 72 hours before being thrown away in the regular rubbish
- During the cleaning process, you should make sure that you wash your hands regularly with soap and water for at least 20 seconds
- You should also make sure that you thoroughly wash your hands after gloves, aprons and other protection used while cleaning have been removed
Spring cleaning checklist
In addition to the areas mentioned above, here are examples of some of the things you may want to put on your checklist if you want to spring clean your school equipment:
1. Sanitising water coolers
2. Re-stocking vending machines
3. Cleaning cookers (or possibly ordering new ones if yours have possibly seen better days!)
4. De-cluttering school libraries
5. Thoroughly cleaning all desks and chairs
6. Giving all bathrooms a thorough once over (and maybe even ordering some new energy-efficient hand dryers too!)
